Fruit and Vegetables
This is an intermediate PDF worksheet that teaches not only the names of fruit and vegetables, but also how we talk about them. The worksheet starts with some warm up questions, and then a matching exercise in which the class will match pictures of fruits to their names.
After this students will read through some descriptions of fruits, and see if they can figure out which description belongs to which fruit. These descriptions include some interesting facts, physical descriptions, and nutritional information.
After this the class will move on to the section about vegetables. Once again they will match pictures of vegetables to their names, and then read through six salad recipes (Cesar salad, garden salad, etc.) and discuss which recipes they would enjoy or not enjoy. After this the class will do a listening exercise in which they listen to 6 people talk about what they like and don’t like in salads, and answer some comprehension questions. Then they will listen to the audio again (if necessary) and say which salad from the 6 salad recipes would best suit which person from the audio file (eg. one person is allergic to tomatoes, so none of the recipes with tomatoes would suit her).
Students will then write a recipe for a salad they think they will like, then complete a game which asks their team to think of a fruit or vegetable for each letter of the alphabet. When playing this game students are not allowed to look at previous pages of the worksheet, forcing them to try to remember the vocabulary they have learned.
Finally the worksheet finishes with some conversation questions which should help them practice the vocabulary they have learned.
This worksheet will work well with any intermediate or pre-intermediate class (A2-B1). There are often many gaps in vocabulary in this area, and it is a field that comes up a lot in every day life.
The transcript for the audio can be found at the end of the Teacher’s Version (TV) of the worksheet.
