Mother’s Day
This is an intermediate-level (A2–B1) worksheet about Mother’s Day with a grammar focus on ‘used to’ when talking about the past. The worksheet contains speaking, listening, reading, and writing elements.
The worksheet starts with some basic warm up questions about mothers, and then the class will read a man describing his mother and some traditions his family had on Mother’s Day. This text uses ‘used to’ multiple times, and after this students will read a paragraph explaining ‘used to’ with the past, and then read the text again and find 3 examples of it.
Next, the class will complete a series of sentences about mothers and families in general with ‘used to’ and any verb that makes sense in the context, and then create some ‘used to’ sentences about their own family.
After this the class will read through several people talking about what their mother’s likes and dislikes, and then match each person’s mother with an appropriate gift (for example, the mother who is into horse riding should get a saddle). After this the class will write a paragrapgh about their own mother’s likes and dislikes, and what presents would suit her.
Finally, the class will listen to an audio file of a man discussing his mother, and what he used to do for her for Mother’s Day.
The transcript for the audio can be found at the end of the Teacher’s Version (TV) PDF.
