Describing Landscapes – A2 English Worksheet

This A2-level worksheet helps students learn and practise vocabulary for describing landscapes and places. Students begin by matching landscape vocabulary such as river, hill, waterfall, island, mountain, cliff, lake, cave, and forest to pictures.

The worksheet then introduces and practises there is / there are and the question forms is there / are there, with exercises involving sentence completion, questions, and partner speaking activities. Students also use a map to identify different geographical features and create their own sentences using there is and there are.

The second half of the worksheet introduces the past forms there was / there were and was there / were there. Students practise these forms through gap-fill exercises and personalised pairwork questions about the past. A final picture-based game gives students the opportunity to produce their own sentences using the target grammar.
