Business Emails
This is an intermediate level worksheet on business e-mails in which students will read a chain of emails between a customer and a supplier. The worksheet starts with warm up questions, and then the class must read a formal email from an event management company which needs lights and speakers for a concert. Students will read the email, answer some questions, and match some of the useful formal phrases to their definitions.
After this the class will read a reply to the first email that is in a much less formal tone, answer some questions, and discuss some of the differences between formal and informal emails. After this they will read through an informal email and make it more formal by replacing words (for example replacing “need” with “require”).
Next the class will read about how to make formal questions with “do you mind” and then read through a series of short, informal emails and make them more formal using the language they have learned.
Finally the class must write two emails of their own, one in response to the email chain about the event company, and one of their choosing from a series of hypothetical situations (e.g you have to apologize to a client for a late delivery).
This worksheet contains a lot of good B1 business English vocabulary, and will work well with any business orientated class at or around the B1 level.
