A Halloween Story
This pre-intermediate Halloween-themed worksheet follows four teenagers, as they discuss their Halloween costumes and prepare to go trick-or-treating. Their costume choices lead to some funny moments, especially when they discover that their fears and preferences can cause unexpected problems. The story ends with an amusing twist involving their English teacher, Mr Clarkson.
In this worksheet students will read about and discuss different Halloween costumes and decorations, from vampires and princesses to skeletons, puppies and monsters. The conversations also explore common teenage experiences, such as teasing friends, feeling nervous around strangers and being challenged to do something scary. Students can discuss their own experiences with Halloween, costumes, decorating their homes and celebrating holidays in their countries.
This worksheet also has a grammar point, how to use the present simple with “want” in positive sentences and negative sentences. They also identify which houses the characters want to visit or avoid, write sentences explaining their choices, and complete further vocabulary-matching activities. Finally, pairwork discussion questions encourage students to share their opinions, describe personal experiences and practise conversational English in a fun, relatable context.
