Adjectives: “ing” vs “ed”
This intermediate grammar worksheet focuses on adjectives that end in “ing” vs adjectives that end in “ed” (eg. “surprising” vs “surprised”, “interesting” vs “interested” etc).
The worksheets starts with a grammar explanation and then asks the students to complete a series of sentences by choosing between the “ed” and “ing” form of the adjective. This exercise introduces lots of vocabulary that will be useful to intermediate learners such as “disgusting” and “embarrassing.” The students will then choose 5 of these adjectives and make their own sentences.
Next, students will read through 3 separate conversations and complete them using some of the words they have learned (note that this exercise often has more than one correct answer).
Finally the students will be given a series of conversation questions using the words they have learned as a way to let them practice freely.
This worksheet gradually gives the students more and more freedom to use the language creatively. This is also a great worksheet to help students expand their vocabulary, as many of the adjectives will be new and useful to A2-B1 level students.
