What are you scared of

What are you scared of?

What are you scared of?

This A2 PDF worksheet looks at the subject of fears and phobias. It will work well with either adults or teens, and contains speaking, reading, listening, and writing elements. Students will start with some warm up questions, and then practice matching common fears to their pictures.

Next, the class will learn some useful synonyms for “scared of” such as “terrified of” or “frightened of” and practice using them to describe things they are scared of. This allows them to use some of the vocabulary from the matching exercise.

Next, students will learn that some adjectives describe how we feel (eg. “frightened”) whereas others describe the thing that makes us feel that way (e.g. “frightening”), and then put them into categories. After this students will practice these adjectives by reading through a spooky story and choosing which adjective fits best in context.

After this, students will listen to 3 different people discuss their greatest fears (one is scared of dogs, one is scared of crowds, and one is scared of her Spanish teacher), and answer comprehension questions about them.

Finally, students will put together everything they have learned by writing an in depth description of a fear they or someone they know has.

The transcript for the audio can be found at the end of the Teacher’s Version (TV) worksheet.
