Storytelling Adverbs and Phrases

This lesson looks at some common phrases and adverbs such as “actually”, “suddenly”, and “eventually”, and uses storytelling to help the students understand and practice the vocabulary.

The lesson starts with a gap fill exercise in which students must complete sentences with 1 different adverbs. Next, the students will read through 2 stories and place the phrases they have learned in appropriate places in the stories. It’s important to note that in this exercise there are far more than one correct answer, and many students may have different answers that all sound good and make sense.

Next the students will tell stories of their own, using the target vocabulary to add  some flavour to their stories.

There is an optional task/homework exercise at the end which asks the students to watch one of two videos (neither video has any dialogue) and then describe the story of the video to their partner, attempting to use the target vocabulary as much as possible.
