Has the World become a better Place?

This grammar and video-based worksheet looks at the difference between past simple and present perfect by asking the question: has the world become a better place? The worksheet is perfect for higher level students who want to brush up on past simple and present perfect. This lesson will also be good for students who like discussing world issues.

The worksheet starts with a grammar explanation of past simple vs present perfect, after which students will read through some true facts about England and decide if they are true or false.

Next students will read a conversation between two men who disagree about whether or not the world has become a better place. The students must complete the conversation by putting verbs into the correct tense.

Next, students will complete an exercise in which they have to connect two halves of several facts about the state of the world. Some of these facts are good news, and some are not, and this should be a good opportunity to get students  speaking on whether or not the world has become a better place.

Finally, the students will learn some key vocabulary and watch a short video about whether or not the world has become a better place. This worksheet is full of both past simple and present perfect, and is a great real-world example of how these tenses are applied.
