Starting Something New 4

Starting Something New 4

This is the fourth worksheet in a series that follows Tessa and Jason as they start a new business. The series is designed to get intermediate (B1) students chatting and practicing useful structures and vocabulary. This worksheet contains speaking, reading, writing, and listening elements.

This worksheet focuses on arguments and disagreements, but more specifically focuses on talking about blame and fault, and how we use ‘should have’ to talk about mistakes in the past.

The worksheet continues the story of Tessa and Jason, and the class will read a text that describes some of the many disagreements the pair have had while running their business. Students will read this story, answer some comprehension questions, and then read an explanation of ‘mistake’, ‘fault’, and ‘blame.’ Then they will complete several sentences using one of these 3 terms.

Next, students will read an explanation of ‘should have’ to talk about mistakes in the past, and then practice using the structure by reading through a series of bad situations and discussing whose fault each one is.

Finally, the class will listen to an argument between Tessa and Jason in which they realise they have made far too much food, and must find a solution to the situation.

The transcript for the audio is available at the end of the Teacher’s Version (TV).
