Pets and Adverbs of Frequency

This is an A1 (beginner) PDF worksheet about pets, animals, and adverbs of frequency. Students will discuss pets and animals in general, and then match pictures of some animals to their names.

Next the class will read a short story about someone who keeps a spider as a pet, and complete the story with some basic adjectives such as “scary” or “cute.” This story also contains some adverbs of frequency such as “never” and “rarely.”

Students will then put mixed up sentences which contain adverbs of frequency into the correct order. All of these sentences are about pets, so they will also learn more animal related vocabulary.

Students will then learn how to use phrases like “every day/month/year” and “two times a week.” Finally, students will practice asking each other “How often do you…?” questions, and write down the answers.

This worksheet will work well as both an introduction to adverbs of frequency and as a refresher. It should keep the students engaged, as animals and pets are a subject most people find interesting.
