Past Modals

This grammar worksheet looks at past modals. The worksheet starts with a short story that demonstrates the structure and use of past modals, and then gives a grammar explanation and several controlled opportunities to practice expressing more complex ideas about the past. The final page of the worksheet asks the students to read about and discuss some unusual deaths from “The Darwin Awards” using the structures they have learned.  It should be noted that the final page may not be suitable for all classes, but the first three pages work well as a simple grammar worksheet.
