Family

Family

This is a free pre-intermediate (A2) level PDF worksheet about family which also looks at the possessive “‘s“, and comparatives and superlatives. This worksheet contains speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises.

The worksheet starts with some basic warm up questions, and then moves on to an explanation about the possessive ‘s (e.g “My father’s hair”), and an exercise which asks them to practice it.

Next, students will look at a family tree and answer questions about what the relationship is between the people on the tree (e.g. “Kay is Tom’s aunt”). This lets them practice family vocabulary, but also the possessive ‘s.

Next, students will learn some more advanced vocabulary around family such as “divorced” and “siblings”, and use it to complete a statement by a person describing their family.

Next, students will read a quick description of superlatives and comparatives, and then ask and answer some family based questions with a partner (e.g. “Who is the tallest person in your family?”). It should be noted that this worksheet only touches on this subject, and is not intended as an introduction to it.

Finally, students will listen to 3 people describing their family (these audios contain plenty of comparatives and superlatives), and answer comprehension questions.

This worksheet also contains an optional homework exercise in which students must write a statement describing their own family in detail.

The transcript for the audio in this worksheet can be found at the end of the Teacher’s Version (T.V) worksheet.
