This is a B1 level grammar worksheet about causative verbs such as “make”, “have”, and “get.” 🔍 The worksheet focuses on what a core aspect of English that is often overlooked in ESL classrooms, using common verbs as causative verbs. For example “He made me clean the room”, “I’m having my house painted”, “I got my boss to give me a raise.” 💼🎨💰

Students will read a dialogue between two friends in which one asks the other to help him move house. 🏠 Even without understanding causative verbs, most B1 students should understand this dialogue easily. 🗣️ The students have to answer comprehension questions about the dialogue, and in particular figure out what “get” and “have” mean in this context. 🤔

Students will then read a general explanation of causative verbs and practice using “have” as a way of saying “I am paying someone else to do something for me.” 💵 Next, they will read of “get” and “make” as causative verbs, and then try to restructure some questions using causative verbs, and then ask a partner the questions they have made. 📚🔄👥

Finally, the students will read a story about a boy and his father and complete the story using the causative verbs they have learned. 📖✍️
