Parenting Styles
This is an upper-intermediate (B2-C1) PDF worksheet about parenting styles. It contains speaking, listening, reading, and writing elements, and also has a focus on connecting words such as ‘despite’ and ‘due to.’ It will work well with any class that are parents, but can also be used with students without children.
The worksheet starts with some warm up questions, and then students must complete a text about how parenting styles are changing. They must do this by selecting one of four words for every gap.
Next, the class will read through some classic parenting dilemmas and decide on the best course of action with a partner. These dilemmas contain words like ‘even though’, ‘despite’, and ‘due to’, and the teacher may want to take a second to point them out as the next exercise involves them.
After this the class will read about ‘because’, ‘due to’, ‘despite’, ‘although’, and ‘even though.’ Then they will complete a text about the struggles and joys of being a parent by using one of the five words above.
After this there is a video section, and the class will watch a video about 5 styles of parenting and their pros and cons, and describe all 5 styles of parenting mentioned.
Finally, students must write a short dext about all 5 styles of parenting, and try to include the connecting terms (because, due to, although, even though, despite) in their despriptions.
