Moving to a New Country 2: Moving House

This is the second worksheet in a B1-B2 series about a man who moves to a new country for work. The worksheet follows Michael as he searches for a new house. The worksheet contains speaking, listening, reading, and writing elements.

First, students will read about Michael’s current apartment, a group house with 3 bad housemates. Next they will read and write replies to 3 different ads for apartments.

After this the students will study words which are commonly joined together when English is spoken quickly such as “gonna”, “wanna”, “kinda” etc. This is important, because the listening section contains many of these shortened words.

Finally, students will listen as Michael goes to 3 meetings about 3 different apartments and answer questions about them while listening for shortened words.

Finally, students will discuss which of the apartments Michael should take.

This worksheet will work well for any students who may have to find accommodation in an English speaking country, but should be useful for all B1-B2 level students as it focuses on understanding spoken English.

The audio transcript can be found at the end of the Teacher’s Version (T.V) worksheet.
