Americapox: The Missing Plague
This high-level video-based worksheet looks at the complex relationship between history and disease. The central question of the video is: When Europeans first made contact with the Americas, they made the native people sick with multiple new diseases, for which their immune systems had no defense. Why didn’t the Native Americans make the Europeans sick too? The majority of this worksheet is based around the video, however, there is an exercise in which students are asked to “design” their own country, and a homework task in which the students are asked to watch the next video in the series. It should be noted that the video component is very high-level, and is only suitable for C1-C2 level students.
